As part of our recruitment campaign, we have asked some of our apprentices to blog about what it is like to be an apprentice at Audit Wales. Here Jordan talks about her experience in her first year.

My name is Jordan and I am a first-year financial audit apprentice. I joined in September 2018 and immediately felt at home at Audit Wales. Everyone is so friendly, it didn’t take long to settle right in.

I’ve been lucky enough to work on quite a few different audits since starting in September such as Newport City Council, Cardiff and Vale Health Board, Agricultural Funds and I even had the chance to work with the Finance team within Audit Wales. Working within different teams is a fantastic opportunity to network and develop your skills and knowledge.

Joining any new job can be very daunting but here at Audit Wales you will always have someone to answer your questions or share your worries with. When you first start you may feel totally overwhelmed, but don’t worry – nobody is expecting you to know everything. The people in your audit team will help you out and be there to answer any questions.

Your development at Audit Wales is taken seriously. You will go on a variety of training courses and your development needs are listened to and accommodated wherever possible. For example, I wanted to develop my Excel skills, so I was offered the opportunity to participate in an Excel training day which I found a great help.

As Audit Wales apprentices, we currently work towards a Level 4 AAT, which is a great stepping stone to progress onto further studies within accounting.
