Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

Personally, I knew university wouldn't suit me, whilst I enjoyed college, I preferred the work environment to an educational environment. Doing an apprentice allows you to gain experience in the industry whilst still achieving qualifications, without the debt of a degree.

What does a typical day look like?

There are lots of opportunities to work on different projects within Audit Wales, so the work never feels repetitive. I start my day by replying to emails and getting back to clients, then I begin my audit work. Throughout the day I feel confident asking for help from my peers as everyone is so helpful and supportive here at Audit Wales. 

Lunch is up to an hour break, often a few of us will go into town together, or to the cafe downstairs. 

At the end of the day, I always make a little note of what needs finishing the next workday, I find this helps me keep on track.

What’s your favourite part of the apprenticeship?

I love the people at Audit Wales, everyone is so helpful and supportive, I feel confident asking for help whilst learning new skills. I enjoy college and find that if I struggle, apprentices in the cohort above me are always there to help too. My favourite part of the apprentice is work environment; everyone is so friendly.

Is there anything you find challenging about the apprenticeship?

Often you could be between two/three different projects, which can be difficult to manage, to overcome this, I ensure I keep my folders organised and my emails up to date.

Initially I found it difficult to ask questions as I've always struggled in that area, however overtime I feel more confident asking for help as everyone around me is so supportive.

What would your one piece of advice be for those thinking of applying for an apprenticeship?

Make sure you do some research into the company and the work that we do here at Audit Wales, as this will give you a better insight into the work you'll do and the qualifications you'll achieve.

I always recommend Audit Wales to my friends as I believe it is an amazing company to work for, so my best piece of advice is to apply for the apprenticeship scheme and be yourself during the interview process.
