 About the role 

Audit Wales is looking to recruit Senior Auditors to join our Performance Audit Group, that covers central government, the NHS, and local government. We have two permanent roles, one of which needs to be a fluent Welsh speaker. We also have a small number of fixed term vacancies.

We are looking for highly motivated people who are passionate about making a difference and ensuring public money in Wales is well spent.

You don’t have to have an audit background or an accountancy qualification to apply for these roles. In fact, we recruit people from a wide variety of backgrounds to work within our Performance Audit Group. 

You will need to have a curious mind, good critical thinking skills and the ability to analyse a range of different information to assess performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Strong written and verbal communication skills are pre-requisites as you will need to describe the findings from your work succinctly and clearly to a range of stakeholders and where relevant make recommendations for how the services you have examined can be improved. 

Working in the Performance Audit Group 

The roles are based within our Performance Audit Group, and you’ll be assigned to a team of well-motivated and like-minded people delivering performance audit or “value for money” work that aims to make a real impact and difference to public services in Wales.

A typical day will see you delivering a range of audit activities. This could include planning the scope of an audit project with colleagues; gathering evidence which could involve reading/analysing documents, interviewing or running focus groups with people in the bodies we audit, analysing data; or writing your findings and recommendations in a report. We are a highly flexible organisation, so you may be working from one of our 3 offices, working from home, or out at an audited body.

Who are Audit Wales 

Audit Wales is the independent public sector audit body within Wales. We hold a unique position within the Welsh public sector, where our role is to:  

  • Assure the people of Wales that public money is being managed well through our annual audit of public sector accounts. 
  • Explain how public money is being used and how it meets people’s needs through our Value for Money studies. 
  • Inspire and empower those with whom we work to continuously improve by sharing initiatives and best practice.
