Gareth Lucey
A Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years’ experience, Gareth’s career has included time in France, Canada and Australia.
As an Accounts Director Gareth is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a portfolio of audit work across central government, local government and the NHS. He is also actively involved with our trainee programme, leading reviews of our apprenticeship and graduate entry schemes to develop the future finance leaders of the Welsh public sector.
Born and raised in Caerphilly, Gareth attended St. Martin’s Comprehensive School before studying for a degree in Accounting with French at Cardiff University. During his degree he spent a year studying at the École Supérieure de Commerce de Chambéry in France.
While he has spent the majority of his career at Audit Wales and its predecessor bodies, he began his career as a trainee with the National Audit Office in London. In 2011 he moved to Vancouver, Canada to work with a financial services firm and gained further experience at the Victorian Auditor General’s Office and the University of Melbourne in Australia. In 2013 Gareth returned to the Wales Audit Office (subsequently Audit Wales), working across our accounts and performance audit work.
Gareth lives in Cardiff and is married with a young son who keeps him busy. However, when he has some spare time he holds a season ticket at Cardiff Rugby and enjoys cycling, cinema and cooking (with Italian food a speciality). He is also learning Welsh.
