Richard Harries

Richard was born in Cwmgwrach, a small village in the Neath Valley. He was educated at Llangatwg Comprehensive School prior to going to Neath Tertiary College and then Cardiff University to complete his degree.

In 1992 he gained a Joint Honours degree in Economics and Accountancy.

In 1993 Richard joined District Audit as an audit trainee and became a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in 1997. He has seen a number of changes to public sector audit in Wales, initially with District Audit, the Audit Commission in Wales and, since 2005, Audit Wales. 

Richard is a Financial Audit Director, having a wide ranging portfolio of audits across the whole of Wales including central government, local government and the NHS. He is also the lead on the European audits, being responsible of the audit of the EU agricultural funds work, working closely with the other UK audit agencies. Within Audit Wales Richard is an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and takes a lead on several corporate initiatives, including leading the Equalities agenda within the Financial Audit Practice.

Outside of work Richard is an avid sports fan. He takes part in a number of bike rides across Wales for charity. Richard also helps coach a local junior football team. Richard is married and has a young family who keep him very busy, hence his attempts to keep fit and active!
