Audit Committees are one of the foundation stones that support good governance. With significant current and future pressures on public sector finances, there is an increasing need for effective practices and a positive impact. Audit Committees play a vital role in this.
This event provides an opportunity to share experiences, learn, and network with peers across the public sector in Wales.

Paul is the author of ‘Preventing failure in Local Government’. Paul will discuss the importance of having a clear understanding of the common causes of failures and how this provides useful intelligence for other local authorities, local government bodies and for central government in preventing future failures.

Research and Development team, Audit Wales
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is the process of discovering the root causes of problems in order to identify appropriate solutions. Our Research and Development Team will walk through a case study example (Edinburgh Trams) which will allow participants to gain practical experience of using the RCA method.
A panel discussion chaired by Ann-Marie Harkin, Executive Director of Audit Services, Audit Wales. Our panel will reflect on the key themes during the day and focus on the big issues facing the future. As well as this, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion with participants
In March 2018, Adrian was recommended by the Senedd for appointment as the Auditor General for Wales and was formally appointed to the position by HM The Queen with effect from 21 July 2018.
As Auditor General for Wales and Chief Executive of Audit Wales, he leads an organisation of around 270 staff auditing the spending and performance of most of the Welsh public sector.
As head of Audit Wales, he oversees the annual audit of some £24 billion of taxpayers’ money and is appointed on an eight-year term.
Jo is a senior manager in the Grant Thornton Public Sector Audit team, with more than twenty years of experience across local and central government. Jo leads on Grant Thornton’s local government value for money insights and her special areas of interest include adult and children’s services; regeneration; transport; utilities; net zero; and procurement.
