Business Administration Apprentice

The Business Administration Apprenticeship Scheme is a two-year fixed term apprenticeship designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake a wide range of office work, while studying to gain a Business Administration level 3 diploma.

You will complete an apprenticeship that will provide you with general office skills and offer the experience of working in a professional services environment.

Key tasks may include:

  • General administrative tasks
  • General customer service enquires, including both telephone calls and responding to emails
  • Liaising with staff and possibly members of the public or other outside organisations
  • Organising information, maintaining systems for recording information
  • Drafting and sending emails, memos and letters of correspondence – normally using templated letters
  • Raising purchase orders and arranging payments
  • Balance day to day work with your studies

As part of your apprenticeship, there is a requirement to complete formal training for approximately one day per fortnight (during working hours) in order to gain a Business Administration diploma. Throughout the apprenticeship there will be continual assessments by the training provider and apprentices will complete work via an online assessment, through written and verbal assessments and observations in the workplace.

Alongside the apprenticeship qualification there will be a structured training programme that will provide you with the opportunity to acquire new skills.

In addition to the support of your peers, you will be allocated a line manager who will have a critical role to play in developing and supporting you throughout your studies, and a buddy to help ease you into your new role as well as providing on-going informal support.

You will get support, encouragement and opportunities to grow. You will also join people who are as enthusiastic about your development as you are and who are just as keen to see you do well.

We are looking for candidates with two A levels at A to E, or equivalent and five GCSEs, at A-C or equivalent.

As you will be supported to complete a Business Administration level 3 award there are further specific eligibility requirements that need to be met. Further details on this can be found in the General Eligibility section.

Eligibility for the Apprenticeship

To be eligible for an apprenticeship, you must:

• Have a right to live and work in the UK

• Be resident in Wales or your employer is based permanently in Wales

• Have legally left school

• Intend to stay in employment for the next 12 months

• Not already be funded for other training courses by Welsh Government

• Be paid the relevant National Minimum Wage

• Work more than 16 hours per week.

Apprenticeship Programmes will receive funding support through the Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework. The Welsh Government does not support apprenticeship qualifications where an individual already holds a qualification of the same type, content and level (or of a higher level). You should not enter for a qualification of the same type, content and level as that of a qualification you already hold.

However, if the apprenticeship would allow the individual to acquire substantive new skills, and it was evident that the content of the qualification was materially different from any prior qualification, then such an apprenticeship may be eligible for funding.

As part of the recruitment process your details will be shared with the training provider for the apprenticeship. The training providers are an integral part of the recruitment process as they are responsible for confirming candidate’s eligibility to undertake the apprenticeship in line with the Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework. In agreeing to proceed with the application process you are agreeing to the sharing of your details with the training provider.

If you are uncertain as to whether you are eligible for a programme, please contact trainee.recruitment@audit.wales  setting out clearly the qualifications you already hold.

Please note that the guidance given above does not consider every circumstance and Audit Wales reserves the right to reject an application where it considers that any eligibility criteria have not been met.

Business Administration Apprentice

Where a prior qualification contained some business elements at level 2 or above, but was not exclusively a business administration qualification, such qualifications would need to be considered for eligibility on a case-by-case basis.
