Guidance on applying

To give all candidates the same opportunity to apply, we require everyone to complete an application form via our recruitment portal.

To request a hard copy of the application form, please contact HR Recruitment.

To aid you with your application process we advise you to familiarise yourself with the job description and our values and behaviours which you can find on our ‘Working for us’ webpage. 

When completing your application form, please ensure you use your qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to demonstrate you meet the essential criteria for this role, as detailed in the person specification. This includes detailing all the qualifications you hold which are classed as essential criteria. Failure to complete the application form correctly may lead to you being sifted out of the process. If helpful, please use examples to illustrate your skills and experience. You may want to follow the STAR technique when explaining your example.

When using our portal please don’t use your browser’s back button to return to a previous page as this will cause an error and you may lose your work. Please use the previous button at the bottom of each page to go back through your application.

Please check that all of the sections are ticked on the summary page. If any are marked red, please revisit that page and complete all the mandatory fields which are marked with an *. You will be unable to use the ‘Apply’ button until all mandatory fields are completed.

After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email.

Please remember that once you have submitted the form, you will be unable to make any changes so please check your entries carefully beforehand.

Once you’re registered as a candidate, you’ll have access to our recruitment portal where you can complete your application, book your interview date and if necessary, withdraw your application.

All our correspondence with you, for example, invitation for assessment centres/interviews or unsuccessful applications will come through our recruitment portal.

The interview panel usually consists of 2 or 3 people, one of whom will act as Chair and will give you a brief outline of the format for the interview.

You may also be asked to give a short presentation and/or undertake tests. You will be notified of which task/s you will need to undertake on your online candidate booking details.

For presentations, details of these are normally given to you beforehand to give you time to prepare.

If you are delayed, or unable to attend, please contact HR Recruitment as soon as possible on (telephone number) or email (email).

Upon being offered employment, we will undertake a number of pre-employment checks.

Right to work in the UK

The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 makes it a criminal offence for an employer to employ those who do not have permission to live or work in the UK.

We therefore require proof of identity and eligibility to work in the UK.

National Security Vetting 

Security Vetting is the process that ensures employees and contractors working for us can be trusted with sensitive government information or property, and are suitable to work in selected posts.

The level of security clearance needed will be determined on appointment but all operational staff within Audit Services will be subject to security clearance checks.

Can I trace the progress of my application?

Yes, if you would like an update on your application, please contact HR Recruitment.

Do I have to complete my application form in one session online or can I go back to it at a later date?

The system will save each section as you proceed through the application form so that you can pick up where you left off or make changes later.

Will my application be acknowledged?

All online applications are automatically acknowledged. If you would like to ensure that we have received your application please contact HR Recruitment.

What if I haven’t heard back from you?

If you haven’t heard back from us, please check your junk/spam folders as the emails can sometimes land up in there.

What if I decide to withdraw my application?

You can withdraw your application through the recruitment portal. We’ll receive an email to let us know your application has been withdrawn.

Am I able to obtain feedback from my application form?

No – unfortunately feedback is not available on your application form.

What if I am unable to make the date/time of the interview?

If you are unable to attend, log on to the e-recruitment portal to see if there are any alternative options, you may be able to amend the date/time of your interview/assessment centre. However, if there are no alternative dates/times available, please contact HR Recruitment. The decision to rearrange an interview/assessment centre will be made by the Chair of the panel and is by no means guaranteed.

When will I hear the outcome of my interview?

At each assessment centre/interview we’ll inform you on the timeline for the outcome of your interview/assessment.

If you have not heard within 5 working days of your interview/assessment centre, please contact HR Recruitment for further information.

Am I able to obtain feedback from my interview/assessment centre?

For feedback from your interview/assessment centre, please contact the HR Recruitment Team. They will be able to arrange a convenient time with the Chair of the interview panel who will be able to assist you.

When will you contact my referees?

We ask your permission to contact the referees and this only happens once we have formally offered you a role.
