To give all candidates the same opportunity to apply, we require everyone to complete an application form via our recruitment portal. You may also attach a CV as part of your supporting information, but please ensure that you put your name on all supporting documents.

When completing your application form please state how you meet the identified competencies through your knowledge, skills and experience. It is essential that you make reference to specific examples, where appropriate using the STAR technique. When using our portal please don’t use your browser’s back button to return to a previous page as this will cause an error and you may lose your work. Please use the previous button at the bottom of each page to to go back through your application.
Please check that all of the sections are ticked on the summary page. If any are marked red, please revisit that page and complete all of the mandatory fields which are marked with an *. You will be unable to use the ‘Apply’ button until all mandatory fields are completed.
After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email.
Please remember that once you have submitted the form, you will be unable to make any changes so please check your entries carefully beforehand.
If you are selected for interview/assessment centre, you will be contacted by email to book your interview/assessment centre date. You will also be contacted by email if your application is unsuccessful and you have not been shortlisted.
The interview/assessment centre date(s) are usually published on the job details page to allow you to make arrangements if you are shortlisted. Normally there are 2 or 3 people on the interview panel. One person acts as Chair and will give a brief outline of the format for the interview.
All panel members usually ask a few competency questions each; they may ask you to give further details on your answer if they feel it is necessary. You can read tackling the competency questions [PDF 90KB Opens in new window] for further guidance on structuring your answers at interview.
You may also be asked to give a short presentation and/or undertake tests. You will be notified of which task/s you will need to undertake on your online candidate booking details. For presentations, details of these are normally given to you beforehand to give you time to prepare.
If you are delayed on your way for any reason, please contact HR Recruitment as soon as possible.
Upon being offered employment, we will undertake a number of pre-employment checks.
Right to work in the UK
The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 [Opens in new window] makes it a criminal offence for an employer to employ those who do not have permission to live or work in the UK.
We therefore require proof of identity and eligibility to work in the UK.
National Security Vetting
Security Vetting is the process that ensures employees and contractors working for us can be trusted with sensitive government information or property, and are suitable to work in selected posts.
The level of security clearance needed will be determined on appointment but all staff within the Performance and Financial Audit areas will be subject to security clearance checks.

2. Do I have to complete my application form in one session online or can I go back to it at a later date?
The system will save each section as you proceed through the application form so that you can pick up where you left off or make changes later.
We ask your permission to contact the referees and this only happens once we have formally offered you a role.

Please contact HR Recruitment giving your name; the position title and the reference number of the job that you wish to withdraw from. Your application will then not be put forward for shortlisting, interview or offer stages.
No – unfortunately feedback is not available on your application form.
Candidates may be able to amend the date/time of their interview/assessment centre and should log on to the e-recruitment portal to see if there are any alternative options. If however you find yourself unable to make the date and there are no alternative dates/times available please contact HR Recruitment. The decision to rearrange an interview/assessment centre will be made by the Chair of the panel and is by no means guaranteed.
In most cases, we try to inform candidates the day after the interview/assessment centre, but this is not always possible. If you have not heard within 5 working days of your interview/assessment centre, please contact HR Recruitment for further information.
For feedback from your interview/assessment centre please contact the HR Recruitment Team. They will be able to arrange a convenient time with the Chair of the interview panel who will be able to assist you.
